Year 5 Discovers Money Matters with Metrobank

It’s official, money doesn’t actually grow on trees – just ask our Year 5s! The year group has recently been exploring where money comes from, how banking works and how best to manage personal finances in a series of workshops led by Metrobank.

Building financial awareness and skills is an important part of the Skills Curriculum here at Thorpe Hall School and that learning starts early with our Prep pupils.  With Metrobank’s help, our pupils gained a greater understanding of what banks do and why budgeting and saving is important. They also tackled bigger topics like borrowing, mortgages, interest and debt. Fifi, a Year 5 pupil commented, “They made me understand the value of money and banking”.

The workshops culminated in a visit to Metrobank where the children saw first-hand the workings of a high street bank. They explored the ATMs and the automatic money counting machines and got to grips with handling cash as a teller. They even had the opportunity to see the bank’s vaults – a particular highlight for everyone!
