Remembering Mrs Silvana Gibbins
It is with great sadness that we remember Mrs Silvana Gibbins, a much loved former teacher at THS who taught Italian and French.
Mrs Gibbins touched the lives of many students through her dedication, kindness and passion for teaching. She will be fondly remembered by the countless students she inspired, as well as the colleagues she worked alongside.
Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with her family, friends and former colleagues. ... See MoreSee Less

This is so sad. She carried on teaching me Italian after I had left THS (in 1995) until I was studying Italian at university. She was so warm and had so many interesting stories about growing up in Italy.
So very sad, I remember Miss Gibb9ns in the 1970s, she taught us French at King Edmund School, I wanted to carry on with French, but I wanted to go further with my Art and goto Art College , which I did. In the 70s, when choosing options, if you wanted to carry on with Art, you could not also study a language! Sending condolences to the family. Yes a truly great lady
Condolences to her family, xx She was our form teacher, I think in her first year at THS. xx
So sorry to hear this a lovely lady and teacher to my daughters many years ago. With much love from the Brand family.
Sad news. Love to the Gibbins family ❤️
I am saddened to read this. My thoughts are with Mr Gibbins, Andrew, and the rest of the Gibbins family. Mrs Gibbins taught me Italian in years 8 and 9, before I left THS in 2002. Mrs Gibbins was a lovely teacher and person and I can still clearly remember her kindness and undeniable enthusiasm for the job. She will be sorely missed. R.I.P! 😢
She was my French and Italian teacher back in the 90s, so very sad to read this news. My condolences to the family 💜

Saddened to read this. She was my French & German teacher at King John School & made such an impression on me at an impressionable age. I went on to read languages & still teach remembering her lessons so clearly. Huge condolences.

Sad 😔. She was my form tutor at King John
Such sad news. Such a lovely lady and a brilliant, patient teacher. French was not my strong subject at school but she sat with me and got me through all my exams with passing colours. She will be sadly missed and thought of so fondly by so many people. Condolences to Mr Gibbons and the family x

There was a brilliant atmosphere at Thorpe Hall School today, as students and their families, alongside the Senior staff, collected and celebrated their GCSE results.
There were smiles, gasps and hugs all round, and we’re so proud of each and every student.
We are delighted once again to celebrate another outstanding set of results for our Year 11 cohort on GCSE results day today.
As has consistently been the case in recent years, Thorpe Hall’s students have once again achieved results above their predicted outcomes – a testament to their hard work over their last few terms at school.
Our students achieved an overall average Value Added (VA) score of 0.79. This means that students on average scored over 3/4s of a grade per subject higher than expected, based on their CAT4 academic forecasts. The overall average grade per student across the cohort was grade 6.
These results show the true value of hard work and resilience, and a commitment to academic progress demonstrated by our students and teaching staff.
Headlines:
👏 1 in 3 students had a VA of over +1.5 – meaning they performed 1.5 grades above their CAT4 academic forecasts
👏 84.7% of the cohort achieved grades 9 – 5 in English
👏 88.1 % of the cohort achieved 9 – 4 in English and Maths
