While we embrace the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, we go above and beyond to offer a broad and enriched educational experience. Your child will enjoy a diverse range of activities led by specialist teachers, including music, French, drama, yoga, and more. Our accredited Forest School and Beach School programs provide unique opportunities for outdoor learning, helping your child develop confidence, creativity, and a deep connection with the natural world.

We understand that the transition from Nursery to full-time school is a significant milestone for both children and their families. That’s why we place a strong emphasis on preparing our Nursery children for this next big step. Our small class sizes, high staff-to-pupil ratios, and structured programs ensure that your child is well-prepared and confident as they move into Preparatory School. We gradually introduce more formal elements in the Upper Nursery to make this transition as smooth as possible.

All our Nursery staff are qualified practitioners and many have been in our Nursery teams for many years. Our staff are nurturing, patient and full of fun, and ensure every day is full of engaging, enjoyable activities for each child. Each child has a key person who monitors their progress and gets to know them as individuals, to ensure they are supported exactly as they need on every step of their journey. Nursery children also benefit from the expertise of our specialist subject teachers, in areas such as PE, Dance and French.

Thorpe Hall’s Nursery offers unrivalled opportunities for our little learners. Our Upper Nursery children have swimming lessons once a week at swimming pool just next door – an invaluable life skill, especially given our coastal location. Talking of which, we take advantage of being so close to the sea with regular Beach School sessions in the warmer months, as well as weekly forest school sessions in our own grounds, and several trips to areas of local interest throughout the year.

At Thorpe Hall’s Nursery, we believe that a strong partnership between home and school is key to your child’s success. We maintain close and open communication with parents, using platforms like Class Dojo and online learning journals to keep you informed and involved in your child’s progress. You’ll receive regular updates on your child’s achievements and experiences, ensuring that you feel connected to their learning journey every day.

Even our youngest children benefit from Thorpe Hall’s through-school status, with access to specialist teaching and facilities in a range of subjects. Children in our Nursery enjoy weekly French lessons, performing arts, PE sessions and dance with our subject teachers. They also get to use our £2.4m sports centre – the Seaglass – as well as our bespoke dance studio, and they even get to perform in our professionally-equipped 250 seat theatre!
