Thorpe Hall’s Songwriters Amplify their Antibullying Anthem

A group of talented Senior students from Thorpe Hall School have been writing and producing catchy tunes to help spread antibullying messages.

The Year 9 students took part in a creative and thought-provoking ‘Bully Beat’ Workshop led by The Songwriting Charity, whose patrons include Kinks frontman and songwriter Ray Davies. During the workshop, they explored the skills and techniques of professional lyric writing, singing, music arranging, and contemporary production. Every individual in the group contributed to the session, and three finished songs were written, rehearsed, and recorded on the day.

Andrew Ashman-Jones, Head of Music at Thorpe Hall School, said, “Our students were buzzing about the day. They worked together, listened to each other’s views and ideas, and came up with some great numbers to promote messages of mutual respect and care – making it very clear that bullying behaviour of any kind is never ok.”

Nathan Thomas, Chief Executive Officer of The Songwriting Charity, said, “The students worked so hard. I was hoping for one song, but they wrote three! The more we talk about bullying behaviour, the stronger the antibullying message becomes. And when you transform those messages into song, they are really amplified.”
