Two pupils at Thorpe Hall School got to experience life as a Headteacher when they were ‘Heads for the Day’.
Jacob Follow, a pupil in Year 5, and Maya Basudde from Year 4 took over the reins from Mr Duckitt and learned a bit about what school leaders do when they shadowed him for a whole day. The children attended meetings, made phone calls, chaired the school council, helped with teaching and gave parent tours. They also saw areas of the school they had never seen before, including the school office and the kitchen.
Jacob and Maya were given the opportunity as a special reward for their consistently good work throughout the year.
Mr Duckitt, now firmly back in charge of things, said: “They were naturals! Jacob and Maya really enjoyed the experience and it was great to see them in action. They were particularly surprised by how much walking was involved! They helped troubleshoot a few unexpected issues, answered queries, and made some great suggestions. I was very impressed with how they rose to the challenge. I should watch out – I might be out of a job!”
