Thorpe Hall School is celebrating quite amazing GCSE results, announced on results day this August.
Over 25% of all students gained a GCSE grade that was at least 1.5x higher than their CAT4 (cognitive academic ability) across all their subjects. This means that 1 in 4 students outperformed their cognitive potential and their predicted GCSE grades across all their subjects by over a grade and a half – quite remarkable.
45% of all students achieved a Value Added score of over 1. Even more impressive was that the school’s average subject value added was 1.1 – demonstrating the school’s strength in securing high achievement across all subject areas via our broad curriculum, supportive individual pathways and unparalleled teaching specialists and facilities. This exemplifies a school where students in all subjects are comfortably outperforming their innate academic potential.
Headteacher, Stephen Duckitt, says; “By focussing on student strengths instead of focusing on weaknesses, we generate a positive learning environment where students of all abilities and different skills can flourish and succeed.” He was keen to congratulate all staff and students on these these “highly commendable and praiseworthy” results, noting their “resilience, determination and dedication” as key factors in their achievements.
Mr Duckitt also extends the school’s gratitude to parents and carers for supporting these students during their GCSE journey.
As a non-selective school THS is determined that every student strives for success, aims higher, and achieves more. We’re immensely proud of the students who achieved grade 8s and 9s across the board, and we are equally proud of every student that has surpassed their own predicted potential – a testament to the success of the ‘expect more’ mentality at the school. Thorpe Hall is delighted to congratulate our class of 23/24 for these results, and share this news with the school community.
