The Echo Meets the Head

In the Echo newspaper’s Meet the Head feature this week, Thorpe Hall’s Headteacher, Stephen Duckitt talks about his first year in post and the wave of new developments ahead for the School.

In the article, he says:

“My goal is for the School to lead the way in education in the Southend and South Essex area. We already offer some exceptional opportunities, facilities, and outcomes for every student – from our youngest in the Nursery through to our Year 11s embarking on their GCSEs – and now there’s a whole new wave of exciting developments on the way.

We’re expanding our specialist teaching with a focus on ICT, innovation, business, and an enhanced languages provision. Again, that begins with our very youngest learners in the Nursery and flows up through all key stages. Our GCSE offering is already very broad, but we’re adding new subjects for September. I’m particularly excited about our new ‘Pathways to Success’ programme, which will nurture, develop and support our students’ individual talents and passions, and enable more tailored learning for every child.  In 2023 we’ll begin a ‘Grammar Plus’ programme, with specific Russell Group and Oxbridge pathways, helping our most able students achieve the highest grades and their fullest potential.

It’s such an exciting time to be at Thorpe Hall. Our School community is founded on mutual respect with a refreshing understanding that we are all here to learn from one another and support each other in raising our aspirations, broadening our horizons, and achieving our goals. I’m so looking forward to seeing our students reach new heights, with the confidence and self-belief to dream big and develop the skills and characteristics that will stand them in excellent stead.  I’m very lucky. What job could be more rewarding than that?”
