ISA STEAM Egg Competition Finalists

Congratulations to our Year 5 students who placed ‘Highly Commended’ for their entry in the ISA STEAM Competition!

ISA (Independent School’s Association) invites students to use their skills in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics by investigating and solving problems from today’s world. The students had the task of finding a way to drop a raw egg from a height of at least 2 metres without it breaking.

Our team eagerly accepted the challenge! The students constructed their protective devices, carefully considering how each component will absorb the shock. With their design complete, they released their egg-carrying contraption from the 2 metre mark. As part of the competition, the team had to produce a presentation and a video and answer questions about their project from a panel of Judge’s.

The team received fantastic feedback from the Judges, including: “I really enjoyed your video, and the script was very amusing in places. It allowed us to clearly understand the approach you had taken and how you had gone about protecting the egg in preparation for its journey into the unknown! Congratulations on reaching the finals. There were a very large number of entries and so you did very well indeed to be shortlisted. Keep enjoying science and learning how beneficial working in a team can be.”
