Support Services Available for Students and Families:

Helplines to Support Pupil Wellbeing

  • Childline – Phone: 0800 1111
  • CALM – This is the Campaign Against Living Miserably, for young men aged 15 to 35. Phone: 0800 58 58 58 (daily, 5pm to midnight) www.thecalmzone.net
  • OCD UK – This is a charity run by people with OCD, for people with OCD. Includes facts, news and treatments. Phone: 0333 212 7890 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm). www.ocduk.org
  • PAPYRUS – Young suicide prevention society. Phone: HOPELINEUK 0800 068 4141 (Monday to Friday, 10am to 10pm, and 2pm to 10pm on weekends and bank holidays).  www.papyrus-uk.org
    Samaritans – Confidential support for people experiencing feelings of distress or despair. Phone: 116 123 (free 24-hour helpline).  www.samaritans.org.uk.

  • Mind – This website is full of great information that can be used to support your loved ones. www.mind.org.uk
  • Young Minds – This website provides information on how to support young people and those around them, it also helps you find useful information about treatment. www.youngminds.org.uk
  • NHS website – This a useful place to find out about mental health illnesses and all other illnesses. This website has lots of valid information. www.nhs.uk/mental-health
  • Mind Ed for Families – This is a website that has been developed by Health Education England and the Department of Education in order to help families understand and support their children, from parenting tips to getting help in a crisis. www.mindedforfamilies.org.uk
  • Yellow Door – This is an independent charity offering advice, advocacy, emotional and practical support, education, counselling and activities to young people between the ages of 11 and 25. www.yellowdoor.org.uk
  • EWMHS – This is the Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health Service provides advice and support to children, young people and families in need of support with their emotional wellbeing or mental health difficulties. The service covers Southend, Essex and Thurrock and is open to young people between the ages of 0-18 and up to the age of 25 for those with special educational needs. https://www.nelft.nhs.uk/services-ewmhs/

  • Headspace – Meditation app that helps with sleep, stress and anxiety.
  • Insight Timer – Free app for meditation, relaxation, anxiety and stress relief.
  • Big White Wall – Free app that offers round the clock support dealing with stress and anxiety.
  • Blue Ice – Free app that helps young people manage emotions and reduce the urge to self-harm.
  • Calm Harm – Free app that reduces the urge to self-harm and manage emotions in a positive way.
  • Chill Panda – Free app that uses breathing exercises to relax more, worry less and feel better.
  • eQuoo – Emotional fitness game- Free app with adventure games designed by psychologist to help increase emotional fitness.
  • Student Health App – Free app that helps you to reduce worries, feel more confident and get health information you need as a student.
