We are delighted to announce that Thorpe Hall’s Centenary Tapestry is now on public display at the Beecroft Art Gallery in Southend on Sea.
Created to mark Thorpe Hall’s Centenary Year, this incredible piece of artwork is the result of a collaborative project by our (now) Year 9 students. The project began in 2024, when the students were in Year 7, and brought together creativity and history to celebrate 100 years of Thorpe Hall School.
Each student designed an individual square for the Tapestry, accompanied by a written piece capturing a significant moment from local, national or world history, alongside key milestones from Thorpe Hall’s own story. These individual contributions came together to form a powerful narrative of the past century.
Every square has also been reproduced as a page in a commemorative book, which includes a full fold-out image of the complete Tapestry. Copies of the book are available to purchase now from our office.
Last week, we were pleased to visit the Beecroft Art Gallery with three Year 9 students, Rebecca, Oliver and Isobel, who had the opportunity to see the Tapestry on display and reflect on the project, sharing fond memories of their involvement.
The Centenary Tapestry will remain on display at the Beecroft Art Gallery until approximately May, and we warmly encourage the community to visit and experience it in all its detail.
