This year, National Poetry Day was based on the theme of counting. At Thorpe Hall School, we thought this was the perfect opportunity to write about our centenary year – one hundred years of Thorpe Hall School.
We began by looking at an old school photograph and thought about the similarities and differences between the pupils then, and the pupils now.
We imagined their experiences, their daily routines, their thoughts- and were surprised by how much we had in common. The students crafted poems that focused on one pupil in the photograph and holding up a metaphorical mirror.
Year 7 Graphic Design students also embarked on a creative journey finding and photographing their own alphabet on the Thorpe Hall site, and used their letters to pen haikus of celebration.
