Green Light for Thorpe Hall School’s Sports Hall Plans
Pupils, parents, and staff at Southend-on-Sea’s Thorpe Hall School, are celebrating after local planners gave them the green light for a dynamic new Sports Hall building.
The proposed new facility will be a ‘four badminton court’ space with new changing and classroom areas and ample run-off room for a range of indoor sporting activities to meet the growing needs of the school and its wider community. It will enable additional activities to be added to the already diverse sporting curriculum from EYFS through to KS4 and GCSE.
In designing the new facility, the school’s Property Committee was mindful to follow Sport England guidance on court sizes, ensuring that the sports hosted can be played at County level and above. Headteacher Andrew Hampton said: “Sport continues to go from strength-to-strength in all disciplines at Thorpe Hall, and the new facility will be a fantastic addition. We look forward to sharing it with the many schools – from both maintained and independent sectors – that visit us for a full calendar of fixtures and tournaments”.
