Max Whitlock Gymnastics Opens at Thorpe Hall

Double Olympic champion Max Whitlock MBE welcomed hundreds of budding young gymnasts and their families to Thorpe Hall School for the opening of his new club on Sunday (14th Jan).

The first ever members of Max Whitlock Gymnastics were invited to the open morning along with Thorpe Hall’s governors and the school’s Senior Leadership Team, for a special preview event.  Spectators were treated to a skilled floor routine from a group of Junior Team GB Gymnastics Champions before Max himself gave a display and joined in with the youngsters during warm-up sessions.

Thorpe Hall is the Southend venue for the new club, which also opens in Colchester, University of Essex later this month. 150 club members of all abilities, aged between 3 to 11 years old will be receiving focused coaching in small class sizes, using state-of the art equipment and following an exciting and effective programme designed by Britain’s most successful gymnast.

Max Whitlock commented: “The open day was amazing! It was designed to give our new members an insight into the club and what we’re all about. It was especially nice that I was able to meet all our young members personally and give everyone their welcome goodie bags. I intend to be heavily involved in the club and both myself, and my wife Leah, have spent endless hours developing Max Whitlock Gymnastics, a programme we believe is the very best Gymnastics plan for foundation level Gymnastics there is!  We’re very proud of the first Max Whitlock Gymnastics venue at Thorpe Hall, and can’t thank the school enough for the help and support it has given us. We’re also looking forward to opening our second location at the University of Essex, Colchester and welcoming our Colchester members there very soon”.

Thorpe Hall School’s Headteacher Andrew Hampton commented: “We are thrilled to be the home of Max Whitlock Gymnastics here in Southend. It was wonderful to see so many people turn out for the open event on Sunday. I know that Max and Leah, along with their team, have a very clear vision to deliver the highest standards of coaching and we wish them every success in developing the next generation of champions.  It’s been an exciting start to a big year for sport at Thorpe Hall and we hope that Max will also be able to make use of our new £2m Sports Hall facility opening at the end of the year.”
